5 Travel Apps for your next adventure

Whether you are using an iPhone, Android smartphone or Windows Phone – there is a travel app out there for you. We’ve put our brains together at Explorer Travel Insurance HQ and have selected our favourite free apps that we find most useful on our holidays. For those of you travelling within the EU it’s worth remembering that roaming charges for calls, texts and internet access will be abolished from May 2014.

If you leave your smartphone switched on whilst away, check out these apps:

Sunscreen by bring-it-together (for iPhone)
We love basking out in the sunshine, building the perfect tan to the envy of our friends, family and colleagues back at home. With the Sunscreen app for iPhone you can build the perfect tan and refrain from damaging the cells on your body. With its nifty timer system, this app will tell you the UV strength in your area and when you should apply your next lot of sunscreen. We think this app is slick…

Hostelworld.com by Web Reservations International (for iPhone and Android)
Find the nearest hostel at the best price, even book it whilst on the move. If you’re an independent traveller then this app may save you a sleep outside, in favour of a more comfortable option inside nearby. Over 35,000 properties are listed in over 6,000 destinations worldwide.

Instagram by Instagram, Inc (for iPhone, Android and Windows Phone)
With over 200 million users worldwide, Instagram is one of the most popular photo and video sharing apps available. Capture the special moments on your holiday, apply snazzy filters and easily share your pictures on your social networks. You won’t be disappointed.

Street View on Google Maps by Google Inc (for Android)
Some say it may spoil the fun but Google Street View is surprisingly useful if you want to visually see your location before and whilst you’re travelling. Now Street View is available on your Android Smartphone through this app by Google. Get a feel for the areas you’re visiting before travelling.

PinPin ATM Finder by Geert van der Cruijsen (for Windows Phone)
Using GPS this app will locate your nearest ATM so that you can quickly withdraw cash when you most need it. The app covers over 220 countries and could be a lifesaver!
